Several months back it became apparent I would need a new pair of boots that could toe the line (foot pun, 2 points) between appropriate for my office yet cool enough to walk around New York City in. The beauty of having a 9-5 in the marketing world is that most offices are casual enough that no matter your shoe choice, you won’t stand out among the many trendy Kanye wannabes (IMPORTANT NOTE: this is one of the only positives, never get into marketing).
I had a number of brands in mind but was swayed by one of my best friends that owns a bar down in New Orleans. He mentioned that he had been wearing the same pair of Red Wings forever and that they had served him well throughout the mayhem of all his weekends working and partying in the Crescent City.
I did my research and was immediately impressed by the history (making shoes since 1905), process and people behind Red Wing Shoes. Charles Beckman was living in Red Wing, Minnesota and saw a lack of appropriate footwear for the demanding local industries of logging, mining and farming. Durability and strength would be key but not at the expense of comfort. Today Red Wing boots are the standard for work boot excellence and are worn in more than 100 countries around the world.
I set out to find the right pair for myself and narrowed it down to three options:
In the end, I went with the lower-cut, classic chukka and having worn these nearly every day of the week since buying, can honestly say I am still impressed by the fit, comfort, durability and compliments they receive.
