What hasn’t been said about the American Giant Hoodie? Honestly? After being touted as “The World’s Greatest Hoodie” it has been reviewed by countless writers, most with more fashion background (and sense) then I’d ever claim to have. And while I’ve read them and agree with them on “how great the zipper is” or how the texture is “comfortable yet rugged”, I feel like they’ve all missed the point. If you take a step back and think about what actually makes a good hoodie into a great hoodie it’s much more than the comfort or American-based manufacturing that seems to dominate most conversations about this brand. A truly great hoodie is to your wardrobe what your oldest and best friend is to everyone you surround yourself with. Reliable and unfaltering. Not glamorous or gaudy but a perfect fit and the first one you think of when it’s time for football and beer.
So how did American Giant build me a new best friend out of cotton? Well they’ve started from the right place by sourcing and sewing their clothing right here in the US. Beyond that, as all those before me have said it’s the combination of perfect fit, perfect feel, durability and comfort. If my American Giant hoodie was a person I’d high five the shit out of it.
